Paulo do Vale Afonso (1982.Ponte de Lima, Portugal) is graduated in architecture from the Architecture Department of Coimbra’s University (Portugal) and NTNU (Trondheim, Norway).
He is currently residing and working from Porto, Portugal.
Through collaborative working networks, he has been developing studies and projects of architecture, both independently or in collaboration with other individuals, companies and/or organizations, as well as collaborating in major architecture design offices in the development of architectural and urban projects in all its design phases.

With over 15 years of experience, he has maintained extensive collaborations with architecture offices in Portugal, Spain, Peru, and Macau, including Carlos Ferrater, 51-1 Arquitectos, and Masslab. He has worked on international projects of diverse scales and programmes, namely as project leader or manager, thus leading multidisciplinary teams and being responsible for the design and delivery of major projects.
He was a co-founder of AMA – Afonso Maccaglia Architecture (2012–2014), a practice focused mainly on educational projects developed in the Peruvian jungle and internationally recognised through major architectural awards and biennials. He was also a co-founder and partner of RAS·A (2018–2025), an architecture collective based in Portugal, and a co-founder of Morfema Magazine.
Alongside architecture, he develops a parallel body of work in photography, focusing on space, territory, and society, and exploring the relationship between subjects and space through an approach he refers to as spatial anthropology.
